How can teachers find teaching jobs in Imperia, Italy?
Depends in which school you would like to teach. If you would like to teach in public school you must be registered in a ranking. in other case you will bring your CV personally to the school.
The main English teaching jobs available are:
Full time English language school positions, part time English language school positions, teaching at kindergartens / pre-schools, teaching at private international schools, teaching at community centers, etc., private teaching (not through a school, agency, etc.)
What are the minimum teaching requirements?
Native or near native language proficiency, TEFL or CELTA.
What teaching requirements would you recommend?
TEFL or CELTA.
What are the levels of payment?
It Depends: Around 15€/hour in private schools, around 25€/h in public schools through different “projects” or through ranking.
How many teaching days a week is normal?
5 days per week.
How many face-to-face teaching hours a week is normal?
It depends on the situation.
What advice would you give to someone considering coming to Imperia, Italy to teach English?
I think an English mother tongue can teach as in public as in private schools with a project. She / he can prepares students to practice this language for example in conversation and grammar (PET). At the end of school year the students will have a final exam.
What are the positive aspects of teaching English in Imperia, Italy?
It is personal and it depends on each of us. What is positive for me it could be negative for others. The only solution is to come and see with your eyes.

It is personal and it depends on each of us. What is positive for me it could be negative for others. The only solution is to come and see with your eyes.
What are some of the teaching challenges for English teachers teaching the local people in your area?
In some public schools where I taught there is PET certification. It is taught by mother tongue. In other case it is taught from Italian teachers with a high level of English language. Unfortunately parents’ expectations are extremely high!!!
Living in Imperia, Italy:
Are there any visa or other legal requirements to live in Italy?
Not if you are from within the EU. I couldn’t answer for other countries.
What is the cost of living like in Italy?
The place where I live is Liguria. This region is not cheap especially on the coast, but cheap in the hinterland.
What are the usual accommodation arrangements and how can you find accommodation?
You can easily find flats online or through local real estate agents.
Other than teaching, what positive aspects are there for living in Imperia, Italy?
Nice weather, lovely food, nice places to visit and amazing panorama.
Other than teaching, what negative aspects are there for living in Imperia, Italy?
I can’t find any negative aspects!
What advice would you give to someone considering coming to Imperia, Italy?
If you expect to have a full time position close to your house, you are wrong! First of all you might be required to work in different parts of the city, perhaps you will work in different kind of schools to earn enough.
What do you think you will miss most when (or if) you leave Imperia, Italy?
The place where I live, so peaceful and my mountains in front of my windows!
What things would you recommend to new teachers in your area to bring with them from their home country?
You can find everything you need, lovely people and fantastic local Italian food.

Students I’ve taught in Italy: Pre-school / kindergarten (4-6 years), junior high school (12-15 years), high school (15-18 years), adults.
Where I teach: Public school and my private English laboratory for kids in Imperia. Teaching for 6 years.
How I found my work: In the public schools I am registered in a ranking and I mange my private English laboratory.
My school facilities: Very good – Teaching resources, technology access, school library, classrooms, textbooks.
