Teaching English in Mendoza, Argentina:

How can teachers find teaching jobs in Mendoza, Argentina?
– In public schools, answering newspaper ads: Los Andes paper, UNO paper
– In private schools, leaving your CV at schools
– In English institutes, leaving your CV and through recommendations

The main English teaching jobs available are:
Part time English language school positions, teaching at state schools, teaching at colleges / universities, teaching at companies, private teaching (not through a school, agency, etc.).

What are the minimum teaching requirements?
– a bachelor degree
– experience
– high English level

What teaching requirements would you recommend?
The 3 mentioned above and a great sense of responsibility and a good classroom management as well.

What are the levels of payment?
From 70 to 120 Argentinian pesos per hour.

How many teaching days a week is normal?
6 days per week.

How many face-to-face teaching hours a week is normal?
30 hours per week

What is the normal arrangement for holidays?
What the government says ( Direccion general de escuelas).

What advice would you give to someone considering coming to Mendoza, Argentina to teach English?
Be responsible, prepare your classes, be respectful, be ready to deal with difficult adolescents and parents, enjoy what you do and make students enjoy too.

What are the positive aspects of teaching English in Mendoza, Argentina?
Many people like the language and the American culture.

What are the negative aspects for teaching English in Mendoza, Argentina?
Public schools are not very good at handling discipline problems.  The salary is not very good.

What are some of the teaching challenges for English teachers teaching the local people in your area?
There are not many English native speakers to continue practising your English.

 

Living in Mendoza, Argentina:

Are there any visa or other legal requirements to live in Argentina?
No that I know of, at least you don’t need a visa.

What is the cost of living like in Argentina?
One single person can live with 6,000 pesos a month, renting a small apartment and traveling by public transportation.

What are the usual accommodation arrangements and how can you find accommodation?
Renting.

Other than teaching, what positive aspects are there for living in Mendoza, Argentina?
Beautiful city, mountains, river, sunny days, many restaurants, bars and wineries, outdoor activities, a lot of tourists visit Mendoza every year.

Other than teaching, what negative aspects are there for living in Mendoza, Argentina?
Some places are not secure.

What advice would you give to someone considering coming to Mendoza, Argentina to live?
Try our food! Make friends! Feel free to ask for anything.

What things do you miss most (other than family and friends) from your home country?
Nothing.

What do you think you will miss most when (or if) you leave Mendoza, Argentina?
Family and friends.
